Growing up, I was a voracious reader. I always had a book with me, and you would often find me tucked away somewhere with my nose between the pages of my latest find. As I grew, I found myself having less and less time for reading for enjoyments sake, but my love of books never faded. At the beginning of this year, I decided in 2016 I wanted to make sure I intentionally set apart time each day to read, just for the love of reading. Reading brings me so much joy, I love seeing things from a different persons perspective, learning about things I didn’t know before, and diving into unseen worlds that only the mind can imagine. I am already so happy I decided to make reading a priority again this year, and my passion was lit on fire! In January I read six new books:
- It’s Not What You Think – by Jefferson Bethke
- The Meaning of Marriage – Timothy Keller
- Forgotten God – Francis Chan
- Strong Looks Better Naked – Khloe Kardashian
- A Place of Quiet Rest – Nancy Leigh DeMoss
- The School of Greatness – Lewis Howes
I didn’t go into the month with a particular goal or theme in mind, I just grabbed whatever book looked most interesting to me at the time. But as you can see, most of them revolved around following Jesus (a topic I am always trying to learn more about and become better at!) and self improvement. I feel like all of the books were really great. My favorite was probably The Meaning of Marriage by Timothy Keller. Even though I am not in a relationship, let alone married, I feel like it is never too early to start preparing for what will be the 2nd biggest decision and commitment in your life (after deciding to follow Christ). I had also heard from several people that this book was a must read regardless of if you are married or not, and I couldn’t agree more.
